Why African American?

I mean if someone's ancestors were from Germany, it's not German American. Or Russian American, or French American? So why African American? I'm not trying to insult anyone, just wanted to know.

  • Who knows? Especially when not everyone who is black is from Africa and not everyone who is from Africa is black.

  • Because people wanted PC in everything. A group of AA decided "black was wrong and demeaning so the tem AA came to be. Just like Native Americans werent always called that. Because of PC everything is messed up.

  • I am Mexican American, Mexicans migrated here and Africans well, they were brought here buy the idiots that saw them as slaves instead of human beings. Europeans also and so on. Chinese/amercans and so on, but I never hear the term German American.
