my 9 month old poop has always been dark brown, but my mom keeps telling me babies poop is supposed to be lighter...my son already eats solids and i make him different types of home made purees, is the color something i should be concerned about?

  • Sounds fine. As long as it isn't black and grainy. That could mean blood in the stool.

  • no, as long as he's pooping regularly and it isn't black or lime green its fine. Some foods discolor poop but he's not showing any signs of food allergies or belly problems so its fine.

  • My doc said don't worry about the color, he said just worry if it gets real hard or if they have diarrhea.

  • Is your baby breastfed or formula fed? Also, what did your mom do? My daughters had dark poop on formula, but on breastmilk my son had yellow to light brown poop. Even now that he's eating solids (and still nursing) it's much lighter than theirs was. I think that may be why she thinks that.
