  • I was told to light a candle nearby that will help burn off the fumes (or whatever) coming from the onion. It also helps to cut the onion while it's cold. Even with that, it still burns a little.

  • I cut them in half or fourths under cold water then toss them in the food processor. I don't cry that way and it doesn't bother the kids either.

  • i have a pair of swimming goggles that i keep in the kitchen and i wear them when i cut onions. my eyes are very sensitive to onions, and this works like a charm... and no, i'm not kidding.

  • I keep my onions in the fridge and cut them with a cold knife (either the freezer or holding it under cold water works).

I often cut onions on the porch so the wind takes away the smell. but that only works in the summer.
