how many quarts in a 20lb bag of rice?

I buy in bulk and we eat alot of rice so we big the big bag. I'm looking for nice storage like a countertop bin of some kind with a lid. I can't find one in stores and online some go buy quarts or cups. Does anyone know how to convert it so I can find one?

  • try looking for the dog food containers.... we also buy bulk and they work so great.. they have these little air seal lids that keep food fresh for months... I forget the name or brand i wash the lables off... you can try any pet store... It's not gross as long as you use it for your food and not the dogs.. lol.. also they are easy on the wallet.. many colors to chose from..

  • Depends on how big of a bag you mean...but I buy a big bag too. It fits nicely in the large tupperware cereal container..the one with the flip top, so you can pour. When it gets half empty I pour into a smaller one. Makes handling easy.

  • 1 quart of short grain brown rice is approximately 1.75 lb.
20 lbs bag of rice divided by 1.75 lb = 11.43 quarts
Unless if I stand corrected, a 12 quart container will fit your 20 lb bag.
For any other size, just divide the 1.75 into the bag's net weight and you will find out the container capacity you will need to obtain.
