What were your periods like while breast feeding?

I got a normal-light period 7 weeks after delivery. I am breast feeding my son every two hours except for at night where he will go 8 hours or so without a feeding because he is sleeping. It has been about 35 days since my last period and I have been spotting for three days. I'm wondering what this might be?

Do BFing periods (if you have any) tend to be lighter than normal periods?

  • My period didnt return until 14 months. They are not every month either. Its like every 45 days or so. They are also lighter. I still have cramping, but im thinking that has more to do wtih the tubal I had than anything. I still bf my daughter and she is 17 months. I had a period on January 11 and still havent had one since then. This would have been my second period since getting it back.. its weird!!

  • HMMM. BF can stop your period. I havent gotten my period in 2 months and I am certain not pregnant. Took the test twice and both times negative. BF stops your hormones so your period can be irregular. NOthing to worry about but if you want you should take a pregnancy test just to be safe.

  • I didn't get a period for 11 months and when I did they were the same but much less painful as far as cramping goes.

  • (OP here). I have taken several pregnancy tests and I am not pregnant. I read that LAM only works if you consistently feed your child every 2-4 hours (which I don't). If you don't OR if your child is over 6 months of age, you can have periods while breast feeding and/or become pregnant while breast feeding. Knowing that and that my son goes 8 hour spans at night without eating, I expected to get my period. I'm wondering what this spotting is then I guess?

  • I did not get my period until my DD was 1 (and I am still breastfeeding). They are a little further apart (like 38 days instead of 31) but other than that everything is the same
