  • I had thought so. Then I have a friend who breastfed her son and he is THE chunkiest little boy I have ever seen! He weighs more than my almost 3 yr old son and he is only a year old! I tend to see babies a little on the chunkier side from formula rather than breastmilk though..I have no clue why.

  • I'm not sure if it's true I heard that formula has more calories and that babies don't know when to stop they keep eating unti ltheir bottle is gone. My baby weighs about i;d say now 12 pound or so she is a little over 3 months old. Then I havea 4 month old cousin formula fed that wears size 12 months already. Mine just got into 3-6 months. At here last check up she only gained 1 lb in 5 weeks I was freaking out. Bit she does not look starved. She is happy smiles, coos & that good stuff. But the doctor didn't say she looks underweight.

  • i think it depends on how much formula they are getting. Typically BF babies are chunkier. You can always tell a BF baby. My DD was 17lbs. at 4 mo. checkup. She is VERY chunky. If you overfeed formula, I guess its possible but its not possible to overfeed a BF baby.

  • Thats wrong about BF babies typically being chunkier. Formula fed babies are heavier because they are encouraged to finish up the entire bottle and BF babies simply stop when they are full. You can check with your doc. and the AAP.

  • BF babies look chunkier to me too but in a healthy way. They look a healthy chunky. Not an overfed chunky. I've BF 4 babies and my babies all looked kind of chunky til they started walking.

  • On the average BF babies are chunkier than formula fed babies. But little one defies the mold. She is almost 8 mos and still wears 0-3 mo clothes. She is little. She was breast fed and formula fed and now completely formula fed with solid food. My little girl can EAT. She just doesn't gain fast.

  • yes. Don't let your Ped. talk you into offering a bottle before you are ready. Breastfed babies loose more weight in the beginning and gain it back slower that formula fed babies do. As long as he/she is pooping and peeing enough and not fussing a lot they are fine.

  • the growth charts docs use are for formula babies so breastfed babies may appear to be "underweight" when really they are fine.
