Why do they put holes in crackers?

  • BlessedMommy64 guessed correctly. If you buy a box of the oddball "puffy" crackers (not saltines), you will see the puffy ones DON'T have holes. The holes keep the crackers from puffing up while baking. The same reason you pierce a pie crust before you bake it.
