Why is Grape Nuts cereal called that, when it contains neither grapes, nor nuts?

  • I don't know about the GrapeNut name origin, but when PopTarts first came out, they were an imitation of a pastry called a tart, and were supposed to "pop" up out of the toaster when done, so that's how they got their name.

  • FYI, I looked it up and found we aren't the only ones who wondered about Grape Nuts:

    "And finally Post explained that grape sugar was formed during the baking process of Grape Nuts, and, since the finished cereal had a nutty taste, he felt justified in calling it "Grape Nuts."

    The reason Milk Duds are called "Milk Duds" is because they are just that - a dud. The candy maker originally wanted them to be a perfectly round chocolate-covered caramel ball."
