How are ultra sound weights of the baby inaccurate?

  • they are usually not that inaccuarate they may be off by a few ounces but they are pretty darn close usually.
    thats been my expeierence anyway. Who told you they were not accurate?

  • because for alot of people they arent it all is guess work even your due date can be off by 2 weeks in either direction when they measure they get averages that pop up on the screen that is about it

  • They are just making educated guesses based off of the measurements they are able to obtain. It is said that an estimated weight can be off by greater or less than 2lbs.

  • try and remember that the moms on here arnt drs and they arnt ultrasound techs. yes it is just a guess because of the measurments they take but iv had to have alot of u/s done due to complications and have seen a specialist and he informed me that there measurements are very accurate and yes if they are off on your due date and say baby is measuring small then they may be off when baby is born but he said it doesnt happen to offten.

  • My 11 lb ultrasound baby in reality (born 1 hour later) was 8lb 4 oz.

  • ok anon well my ULTRA SOUND TECH said one day around 20 weeks my daughter was estimated at 3 1/2 lbs but then 7 weeks lter she was estimated at 2 1/2 lbs its all measurements period and usualy the people that tell you what the estimates are they usualy are the ULTRA SOUND TECHS ... hmmmmm

  • i mean they honestly cant tell you how much the baby weights exactly its not like they take the baby out and weight them
