How much should I pay a babysitter per hour?

What should I pay a babysitter if I am going out to dinner for 3 hours? My sister pays her babysitters $10 per hour I'm thinking maybe minimum wage of $7 hr? What is the norm? In this instance it happens to be my husbands cousin she is 13 and has taken the babysitting course.

  • We usually pay $10 an hour. One of our sitters charges $8 for two kids...we just always round up.

  • Ask her how much she thinks she deserves, please dont take offense, but say like your child was being non-compliant with her and was just a handful. for three hours and if its just one child than I think overall she should earn 15$ (5$ an hour)

  • It really depends on your area. Where I live, a babysitter runs about $10-$15 per hour for one child. Maybe ask other mothers in your neighborhood what their sitters charge.

  • ok then don't let a 13 yr watch your kid. you pay someone who is older more money? not fair and she had class to take which also means she knows cpr.

  • $10 an hour seems like alot- period. Especially for a 13 year old. People bust there asses at restaurants, wal mart, etc, for way less than that. I think $6 an hour would be good.

  • I agree 10 is a lot for a babysitter, I think 5-6 a hour is fine.

  • I think you should give her about $10.00 per hour. Maybe you could give her a little more, like just give her $40.00 for the night.
