How long is strep contagious after you start meds?

My Dr. said my sore throat wasn't strep yet, but he treated me for strep just in I didn't pass it to the kids. How long is it contagious after you start amoxicillin? He said not to kiss the kids, which is fine, but it's hard not to breathe on them when I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old I have to HOLD. Also, he said no juice, it will irritate it more. Have you ever heard of this?

  • in daycare we tell parents children have to be on meds for strep, and basically whatever else they can get sick with, for a full 24 hours before they can come back.

  • i was always told 24 hours, as far as the juice thing Im thinkng maybe the acid is what it is irritating but I always drank juice when I was sick with strep and didnt have any issues. I think ultimately its the antibiotics that make a REAL difference
