Our puppy just....

peed on the carpet and the whole house stinks aweful! Like a realy strong pee/musky smell. She is about 18 weeks old, and drinks plenty of water because we have one of those automatic water containers for her. Why does it smell all musky?

  • It sounds like she's having potty training issues (I'm a vet tech). She's probably been having accidents and you didn't know about it and that's why it's starting to smell musty, cuz it's been sitting. You can get a black light, turn off all of the lights at night time. The urine will show up under the light. They have stuff called Nature's Miracle (at any pet store). It will clean the spot and get rid of the smell.

Now, about potty training...Put her on a leash hooked to you or put her in a large kennel. After an hour take her potty. If she goes let her off for another hour, if she doesn't she goes back on the leash or in the kennel...Do this every hour. Because she's young they understand the best with treats....Everytime she goes give her a treat then let her off the leash for the hour.

ALSO, when you go to take her out say something like "you wanna go potty?", then take her out and tell her go potty.*praise her*

  • You haven't noticed before untill she peed on the carpet. Is she house broke? Anyway she may have a uti , or if she is not spade she may be coming into season. But again I am not a vet so maybe you can collect a sample of the urin and bring it to your vet so they can ck it out, to see what the odor ,if anything ,is. or call and ask if this is something you need to worry about and what you can do about it. Hope she is ok

  • She is most likely NOT coming into season if she is only 18 weeks old. It may be caused by the different food she is eating, or she may not have drank as much water beforeshe peed this time, making it more concentrated. It might be alright, but I think it would be wise to take her to the vet anyway. Use vinegar and water to clean up the pee and neutralize the smell. Good luck!
