Why can't I be a Christian?

I sure would like to know why it's okay for gay and lesbian couples to call themselves Christian, but if I (a straight person living with my partner) call myself Christian, everyone in the world calls me out on the carpet for it. They say "it's because you CAN get married". WTH? Who said Christians are perfect?

  • Why do you care what others think so much? Definition of a Christian is a person that believes in Christ... so if you believe in Christ then your a Christian no matter what.

  • That is between you and God. Noone can tell you that you are not a Christian. The bible has many verses that can be translated in so many different ways. Many people like to translate them into how they would best fit their life and how they think it should be. Being a Christian is about having a relationship with God. You are right. Noone is perfect. Everyone sins and "falls short of the glory of God." Don't let self-righteous hypocrites get you down.

  • It's the people who feel it's their business to tell you you're not Christian who aren't the Christians.

If there is a God and/or Jesus, then anything & everything you do on this Earth is between you and Him and nobody else.

IF there is a God/Jesus.... I honestly think a LOT of self-proclaimed & outspoken Christians are in for a rude awakening.

  • Its between you and God. No one can tell you what you are and no one can tell you what your are not. Don't give others that much power to define you. Deal with your own heart with God.

  • Many denominations have their own rules for who can and can not be 'Christian.' Lots of Christians say that JW's, LDS or Catholics are not Christian even though each of those denominations call themselves Christian. Luckily the Lord knows what is in our hearts so as long as you believe in him, that is all that matters!

  • Christian means anointed one follower. Christ means anointed one. Anyone can say they are a christian but it doesnt mean they are one. It has to do with following Christ, his word and being obedient to the word of God. He knows the heart of man and the fruit within.

  • The term "Christian" isn't even in the Bible. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Begotten Son of God." John 3:16-18 It's not about "being a Christian" it's about accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour and trusting Him.

  • Do you read your bible??? Do you know that it doesn't call us to be christians? Please read the following, as they all speak of calling upon the name of the Lord to be saved: Joel 2:32/Romans 10:13/Acts 2:21/Acts 22:16/1 Cor. 1:2/Zeph. 3:9/Gen. 4:26/(those who don’t) Jer. 10:25.
