  • I say simple things. Chips, lunchables, ready to eat foods pretty much...and things in bags for snacking. IF they have a fridge...well, anything you want pretty much!

  • Are you thinking meals or snacks? With children? Some people take a cooler and keep refilling it with ice, and so they have a way to keep cold food cold. Call the motel and ask if the rooms have a refrigerator and microwave, sometimes they will put one in the room for you, sometimes for a small extra cost. So let's assume no refrigerator and no cooler. Apples and bananas, raisins, nuts, cans of V8 or soda (there will be ice available), Those snack cracker sandwiches- there are cheese, PB. the nice thing is that they come in small packages. Do take some gallon sized zip lock bags to put opened food in. There are tuna and salmon meals - you just open the package and eat. Crackers. You can take instant oatmeal, they even have it in disposable bowls now, and heat water in the coffeemaker and take some powdered milk or get some milk there. (More)

  • Cocoa mix, bread and PB, and jam will keep even opened for a while. Look around the grocery store for other ideas. Cans of nuts, pretzels., cranberry juice comes in individual containers. If you have a microwave and refrigerator there won't be a problem. Do pack plastic knives, forks and spoons- they don't take up much room and you may need them. And if you can, napkins or paper towels, otherwise you have to use kleenex.

  • I am staying at hotels every other week. I found the best things are popcorn, you can even use the microwave in the lobby, fruit snacks, granola bars, water, soda, chocolate (of course).. some hotels have snacks in the evenings, fresh baked cookies and popcorn, those are my favorite!

  • You can call ahead of time and ask if you will have a fridge or if they can give you a room that has one. Sometimes they move mini fridges around. I like to bring toddler fruit snacks, banannas, rasins, nutragrain cereal bars, Gold fish, and other fruit that doesn't have to be in a refridgerator. As well as the Gerber toddler meals that can be microwaved and kept without a fridge. Canned toddler peaches and those dried Gerber fruit snacks are a keeper. Some Horizons Organic box milk for on the go. Does not need to be kept cold and just like juice boxes. Good to use for a variety of situations and portable. And Cherios. Got to love good old cereal for both a breakfast and a snack. Juice boxes of course. I don't like to do a lot of junk food to bring with us. Fruits and those meals that can be heated up work well. Including Campbel to go soups for adults work well for me. This way any grocery store has them.
