5 month old and shoes?

My 5 month old had to wear special braces on his feet fro a long time so he couldnt wear shoes. He is finally free from them but he has no shoes. Do you think a child who is not walking NEEDS to wear shoes if he has on socks? I'm just wondering if they actually serve a purpose aside from keeping the feet warmer and looking cute.

  • I put shoes on my 5 month old when we go out in public. She's learned how to take off her socks by rubbing her feet together and the shoes are the only thing keeping them on

  • No, they do not need shoes at that age. Socks are fine. If you want shoes, the Robeez (or a similar brand) are great at that age.

  • Of course a baby that does not walk doesn't NEED shoes. But I never leave the house with my son unless he is fully dressed, This means shirt, jeans, socks, and shoes. But that's just me. They don't serve a real purpose.

  • the only purpose they serve is to keep the socks on. if you do, get robeez or something similar, babies can't get them off. and the soft sole is better for learning to walk

  • They dont need shoes. They can be cute, but not a big deal. I like to keep my son in sleepers half the time cuz he is so much more comfty in them than jeans, and hes a spitter upper, so not a big deal. At this age it doesnt really matter.

  • My dd was shoe less until she could walk. They were pointless. While she took her socks off too, we lived in FL and for most of the year bare feet weren't a big deal. They make "crib" shoes for infants. Waste of money if you ask me lol.

  • My oldest daughter wore shoes out of the house at 5 months because she loved to jump on the floor while standing between my legs. But with the others, who didn't stand as early, they didn't wear shoes until they were walking & then only out in public to protect their feet. Get some cute slippers if you need warmth--my son had puppy slippers & they were awesome!

  • We put shoes on my son to keep his socks on.... otherwise his socks are off in minutes. He doesn't pull or kick off his shoes though

  • my DD is 8 months & she never wears shoes. i have to buy them a size bigger than her feet b/c she has her dad's tall feet & she can take them off too easily. she doesn't like shoes b/c they make her feet heavy & shes working on crawling. we dont leave the house too often & when we do she just wears socks (unless its warm out).

a baby doesnt need shoes till they are walking...but they are really cute haha
