  • It will vary quite a bit from child to child. Some kids never crawl - my son didn't. My daughter scooted on her butt for a long time and only crawled after she mastered walking. ;) Go figure. My oldest walked at 10 1/2 months old. My youngest was 9 1/2 months. They spoke their first word early at 6 months.

Average range for walking is 10-16 months (give or take)
Average first word...oh I forget, but it is closer to a year.
Crawling - as I said, some children never bother with it. Some Peds don't even consider it a notable milestone in their evals. (I know my practice did not.)

  • FYI: mine crawled at almost 6 months. He's 6 1/2 months now and hasn't walked or talked yet. I'm just curious.

  • 10 months. Yes for all 3!! Crawled 2 days before his 10 month bday, said his first word, ball, and took his first step at 10.5...

  • For these milestones and other questions ...a book called "what to expect, the first year" is an excellent resource to have in the home. Every child is different. They usually meet these goals when they are ready.

  • Yes, I have the book "What to Expect, the First Year." But I want to know from you ladies what the ranges really are. :)
