How do you tell if a cat's cough is caused by hairballs or can anything else cause her to be coughing?

Acts as if something is in her throat. Feed her Iams Cat food Formula specially made for Hairball prevention. She is 9 years old. Very talkative, loves to be held, active for her age-running around alot and playful. Last time at vets blood work was normal and not a thing wrong with her xrays-no bone or joint problems, no cancer. He wants to keep an eye on thyroid. Wondering if this could be why she is coughing?

  • idk, you would know it was hairballs if she produced hairballs from coughing, otherwise i have heard a lotta animals have allergies! my dog does! she is 10 and if i use febreze after i vacuum, ( i like the allergen reducer one too) she has a near asthma attack! watch to see if something in the house is causing it.

  • Sometimes they are covering a sarcastic remark when they cough... cats are mean that way.
