How do you potty train a 2 1/2 year old.

How do you potty train a 2 1/2 year old that takes off her diaper and says potty when she has to go ,but she goes in the floor. When we get on to her, and put her on the potty she screams like she is scared to death. We even went and bought her own potty, but she wont use it. My three year old pretty much potty trained her self.

  • I would try 3 day method, see discussion on this in the "potty training moms" group in Cafemom. Andrewsmom gives a good journaling of the experience. You go straight to underwear, wait for them to start peeing and move them to the potty every time and then reward them when a little pee makes it in. If she hates her little potty she may prefer the potty ring on the big toilet (mine did). The munchkin brand they sell at Target seems more comfortable than the others. That method worked great for us... took about a week, not 3 days, but we trained a 19 month old! It takes work and dedication, but great payoff.

  • Have you tryed the potty chairs that play music. Maybe even give her a treat, something she really likes but rarely gets when ever she uses the potty.
