  • Boric Acid does work, but roaches can get "used" to it if you use too much of it. Eliminate all cardboard boxes. They like to hide and breed in them. Wrap food tightly or put in airtight containers. Keep kitchen clean. I would suggest a good exterminator, too. They can get their bug killing 'juice ' into cracks crevices and places boric acid and bug sprays cant get to. Also keep garbage away from the house. basically roaches like warm dark and wet environments. I learned all of this through experience with pest control in restaurants and other things over the years.

  • Mix 1 cup of Borax (found on the laundry aisle) with 1/4 cup sugar. You can use the tops of jars (baby food, spaghetti sauce, etc.) to place the mixture in. Tuck in corners around the problem areas. The sugar attracts the roaches (and they take it back to the nest) and the Borax dries out their exoskeletons. -Got this from Good Housekeeping's "Ask Heloise"

  • You can set off bug bombs, you won't be able to come back in the house for 4 hours but they will do the job.

  • Don't leave ANY food out EVER.No dirty dishes in the sink and take the garbage out daily if you have food scraps in it. Have a dishwasher? put bread and chips in there and lock it closed. A Product called Rid-a-bug is GREAT for everything from spiders, and palmetto's (yuck) to roaches, scorpions and all kinds of bugs. Wal-Mart and Walgreens usually carry it. Boric acid is nice for a barrier but unless they walk across it it dosnt work.

  • Having lived down south for many years (but not anymore), I doubt anyone can ever get rid of roaches, but you can mitigate an infestation by keeping the kitchen really clean, putting bread and other foods in the fridge, contracting a weekly pest control service, setting up roach baits, keeping lawn debris away from the house, etc.

  • If you can't afford the high costs of exterminating I would try using boric acid. You can get it at any hardware store. Its like a white powder and you put it in every corner of your home, inside the crevices and you should notice a difference soon. It works well on ants also.
