When can baby sleep with blanket?

Can my 6 month old have a blanket yet? He rolls all over his bed and sleeps in all positions, but I thought that a blanket would help him sleep better - he is a horrible sleeper, waking up several times a night. Is it too dangerous since he rolls all over the place?

  • My 9mos old has had a blanket since he was born also. His bedroom just got soooo cold I was afraid he was gonna freeze at night. Now he sucks on it to help him fall asleep! I think your baby would be fine. You could always try to tuck it into the sides of his bed too.

  • My 5 month old won't sleep without a blanket. I just make sure to tuck it in at the sides and put her arms over the blanket so when she moves them it doesn't disturb the blanket.

  • Does it matter that he rolls all over his bed at night, from his back to his tummy and all over the crib???

  • My son does that...he does fine, even with his blanket.

  • We've used a blanket since we first bought her her. But, we do have her laying in a sleep positioner so she can't roll over. Most of the time she kicks her blanket off anyways.

  • Babies R Us sells these wearable blankets -- Halo Sleepsacks, I think they're called -- and they're completely safe. My daughters have both slept great with them. My 21 month-old still sleeps with one, which is why I think she hasn't learned to get out of the crib (lol), and my 6 month old is now happily wearing one instead of the swaddler blankets she was addicted to. That way the blanket stays on them even as they roll around. They have reg. cotton lightweight ones for summer and microfleece ones for winter.
