how long do you stay in a house once your house is in foreclosure and it is already up for auction?

I have a friend who was notified that her house was up for auction on march 3rd. She hasn't packed and is still acting as if she has all the time in the world!
My thinking is, is that her time is limited and needs to pack up.

  • It could vary by state, but in Ohio, you have 14 days after the sale date!

  • Uh yeah. She needs to pack now or they'll just throw her things away. We had a house auctioned off (one we rented) and had 30 days before the auction to move...we moved the day before the auction.

  • She needs to get out today, the sheriff will come and empty her house and the neighbors will have the right to pick through her stuff once it is at the curb.

  • Maybe her best bet would be to call the bank.

  • Once the home goes on auction.....its over. The bank can do nothing for her. yep, she will see her stuff on the curb. I see this question says March 3rd.....what happened with that?

  • She should have received a time frame notice a long time ago. Maybe she is just ignoring it. I am not trying to bash her. Sometimes when people are under a lot of stress they develope an "ignore it and it will go away" attitude. Do you think this might have happened to your friend?

In any event, she needs to move ASAP or they will forefully move her out.
