Add a textured border paper that coordinates with your color scheme or theme, or hand stencil a border around your room--either along the top edge where the wall meets the ceiling (easiest) or as a chair rail (3 feet above the floor--harder as you have to measure carefully). Can buy online.
Add picture collages of family and friends. Spray paint frames to define the grouping and coordinate with your rooms colors.
Add toss pillows or a a throw blanket accent on a chair to create more warmth. If privacy isn't an issue then keep window treatments simple...a pretty valance/topper is often enough to finish a window.
Install some "floating shelves" in a decorative symmetrical pattern. The ones that are mounted without support brackets, to display small decorative items, small books, a picture or two.
Thinking vertical and using wall space will create a more spacious look, and keep things looking neat and organized.
