Would you travel eight hours for........

It is my nephew's birthday. My sister lives eight hours from me, our mother is pretty much right in the middle, about four hours away from each of us. Up until last year she would have her kids' bdays at our mom's house. I do the same. Our mom's side of the family is very close and we all get together for bdays for cousins etc. To me if she cared about us being there she would have had it at mom's. Now they are trying to give me a guilt trip for not going. We would have 48 hours. 16 total driving, 16 about sleeping, then expect my son in school on monday. I don't think she should expect me to go. Would you?

  • Absolutely not! I would love to go if it were me, but I wouldn't do it.

  • OP Four hours is pretty crazy but that is where all of our family lives so I have to drive that distance to see them at all. Not fun but my mother would kill me if I never came home. =)

  • Why don't they come your way? It doesn't seem fair to make you do all the driving.

  • Me and DH have sort of a rule. Unless we are staying somewhere for a significant amount of time (4 days- 1 week), we won't drive over 4-6 hours.
It's just too much when you have LO's.

  • No I wouldn't drive that far for a party. I wouldn't even drive 4 hours for a b'day party.
