Can the male hamster stay in the cage?

Um....female hamster had babies. Can the male (daddy) stay in the cage or no?

  • Once the babies are 4 weeks old you need to separate the males from the mom and females or you will have more babies...and before you know it you will have a hundred

  • No--they can eat the babies. If that does not happen ,him being there can stress the female and cause her to eat her own babies. I would separate them now...you will have to keep them in separate cages from now on anyway or you will have babies every two months or so.

    Ever pair of hamsters i had . when they had babies
    the male hamster would eat the babies.
    not a good idea to have him with the babies.

  • She might be prego again!!! Hamsters and other small critters can get pregnant again immedatly after delivery! My mom's friend works in a lab with hamsters all day long. Don't be suprised if you get a little suprise in a few weeks!
