CHILD SUPPORT??

MY DH HAS DD AND SHE IS 8. HE IS PAYING $600 A MONTH IN CHILD SUPPORT RIGHT NOW. AT WORK THEY CUT HIS OVERTIME AND I AM PREGO, HE IS MAKING ABOUT $250 LESS A PAY CHECK WITHOUT HIS OVERTIME. HIS EX-WIFE IS GETTING REMARRIED THIS MONTH. WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT GETTING HIS CHILD SUPPORT REDUCED BUT I AM WORRIED WE WOULD FEEL GUILTY. WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHTS???

  • Get it reduced. Why would you feel guily? You're prego and he's gonna have to pay for that baby too. When you have more then one child you try to give to all of them as equally as possible. ...If he's making less, CS should be less. JMHO

  • He has to support both children. If she is getting remarried, then that man is presumably going to gladly help support her and her child. Otherwise, he shouldn't be marrying him, IMO. He needs to insure that both of his children are well cared for. How would you feel if the older child had excess because he was continuing to pay more child support than he could afford but the younger child went without? Child support is based of other children and income. He could easily petition to get it reduced and it would be legally based on the circumstances.

  • You have to be careful though, it could go in the other direction if the ex is making more money.... I would consult an attorney, usually the first consult is free... GL

  • Consult an attorney!
I know someone whose dh did not and he was made to pay 30 grand for future dental care and She was made to go to work to help pay for the child support. She was a stay at home mom with a young toddler herself.
