  • 30 to 60 when he's at rest.
    That's a huge range for "normal". If you are concerned, take him to the doctor.

  • 40+ when at rest and 60-70 when excited is the average I learned.

    Babies will have unusual breathing patterns from time to time when asleep (as described and explained in What to Expect the First Year).

    Yes, if concerned, call the doctor.

  • Actually, I was told for my baby after he was hospitalized that anything over 40 is labored and high and 30 is around normal.

  • Usually around 40's less when sleeping... more when upset. Average probably 30-60.

  • You also need to look at the babies chest without clothes on. If the chest sinks in, then the baby is laboring to breath and you should take him to the dr.
