What vegetables or fruits grow well in wood ash? and Which ones do not?

I am starting a garden with jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, spinach, peas, carrots, radishes, okra, cantalope and green beans. But there used to be a fire pit in a section of the garden. What should I plant in that section? I have been mixing the soil to break down the consentration of ash, but it is still prominate in that particular section.

  • I don't have an answer but an idea...instead of turning into a garden spot turn it into a rock garden or put down tiles get a little table and chair to set there so you can gather your goodies and sort them right there in the garden...or dig a whole there and make a tiny pond.
