  • Your child needs to see the dentist within 6 months of getting their first tooth, or by their first birthday - whichever comes first. Then they should maintain the cleaning every 6 months.
You may have some dentists tell you to wait until they have all their teeth in or until they're three, but that's just laziness on the dentist's part, and is not beneficial to your kid. Studies show that children who don't see a dentist until they're three are four times as likely to have cavities in their baby teeth - which isn't surprising, because if your child got their first tooth at 6 months and first dentist appointment at 3, they've missed 4 scheduled cleanings and exams.

  • I made the mistake of waiting.

My childrens dentist said as soon as you start to see teeth. Or at lest by the age of 1.

  • Ask your dentist. Ours had them in at 18 months just to let them get acquainted with the equipment and to have "their teeth counted." At 2 the regular visits started.
