  • If you are looking to adopt a child, contact your local social services department and they will help you find resources, and maybe even put you through to the right people.

  • We adopted our son and it was an amazing experience, we went through CAS in Ontario and he was 14 months old when we got him. Any questions let me know.

  • Look carefully at all the different options. We chose to look for older spec needs. Foster care didn't work because of a social worker who had a bad attitude about Christians and home-schoolers. So we found our older spec needs son in China. He is perfect.
    Things to consider--

    age of child
race (be certain to consider the attitude of extended family members!)
acceptable defects (look at what your medical insurance will cover, too!)
    bonding/attachment risks
your personalities and how you cope with stress
WHY you want to be a parent
your ability to look beyond your insecurities to what is best for a child in an open adoption (and be honest with yourself!!!)
    Your attitude about birthmoms.
Various methods of adoption, and places to adopt from

Good Luck. I believe adoption is a wonderful thing when all parties go into it with eyes wide open. But it can be devastating if you aren't ready. Good
