Why is it called alcoholics anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say"hi, my name's Bob. I'm an alcoholic"?

  • It's not anonymous when it's in the room, but outside of it's closed doors, the names of those people are anonymous. It's a way for people to confidentially seek support.

  • About the last answer, its not so much anonymous if your going to AA through the Military. Someone is bound to know who you are and see you on post. LOL. I only say that because my husband has been there and knew some of the people in the group.
