10 Month old is waking up at 2am, how can i get her back to sleep! HELP US!

it is almost 3:30am here, and we heard our 10month old scratching her crib, went in to see what was going on, to find her sitting up playing with her crib. it has now been over an hour since we found her, playing, we are exhausted have tried everything we can think of to get her to sleep, drive, food(milk, snack, jar), rocking, rocking in car seat, laying down in crib we cant think of anything else to help get her to sleep, she doesnt sleep alot during the day either, in fact she only naps for a total of 2hrs a day, we have been having sleeping problems with her for about 5 months before that she slept a solid 9hrs a night, she has had tylenol for teething, were out of ideas we really want her to get a full nights sleep, and us too any idea would b greatly appreciated.

thanx

  • If she is just playing, let her play. She'll eventually go back to sleep. You truly can't force her to sleep.

  • She got you to come in and play with her- make sure it doesn't become a *habit*. It won't hurt her to sit in her crib and amuse herself. She may just not be able to sleep right now. Don't let it take away from yours... Make sure she is getting enough fresh air, sunshine and exercise. Mine would sleep better even if they were in the stroller while I walked. But getting her outside at a park or whatever on a regular basis would probably help in the future. Chamomille tea also can help little ones- or homeopathic insomnia tablets. My grrls call them *melting pills*- they are sweet, and will not harm, can only help. Most groceries or drugstores carry this sort of thing now. Good luck momma...

  • Yep, we went through this too. I know you're tired and hearing her play on the monitor keeps you up, but you are actually lucky that she is playing and now crying. Don't get her out of her crib when she does this. Don't pick her up and don't rock or do anything else to help her back to sleep. As long as she isn't crying or screaming, just let her play herself back to sleep. I gave my baby one of those safe stuffed animals with the teether rubber feet and hands and that entertained him. After he realized he didn't have an audience anymore, his 3am playtimes got shorter and shorter and finally in less than a month he was sleeping through the night.

  • My DS does this constantly throughout the night. We just let him play and he always plays himself back to sleep.

  • Unless our son is screaming or crying for something, we let him stay in is crib by himself. As others have said, you can't force sleep and eventually he will go back to sleep.
