  • i was induced and i dont have any complaints. i was induced at 5:30 a.m, they broke my water at 10:30, and i had my son at 8:42 that night

  • I'm curious why the doctor would suggest this. I've had 2 babies - the first was born at 36 weeks and the second at 38 weeks - both were SMALL babies. Generally I thought the longer the baby is in the womb the more fully developed they would be. It would make more sense to me if they wanted to induce because your baby is past the 40 week mark. I would question the reasoning.

  • Whats wrong with letting nature take its course-and if it doesn't happen on its own-then intervene?

  • why would you be induced beofre you're due? That is weird. I was induced and i hated it. The contractions were constant and never let up because of the petocin. I HATED IT. but....thats just me :)

  • Doc's know what is best for your little one :-) Dont leet anyone make you feel bad about this!!!
Pros: You will have your baby soon! You will know when to expect him/her. You can let people know that you will not be around, you can be sure your doc is taking the health of your baby into deep consideration, ur water will not break in public, you may have a faster del.
Cons: You dont have a surprize, you may have a longer labor, you may need a c-section, you may not like the date the doc choose......

Good luck!! I hope you dont fuss to much over this!!! You will soon have your baby in your arms!!

  • hmm..I think doctor's are induction happy these days..did you ask why he suggested it? If its just to hurry it along and no concrete health reason then I would decline his suggestion. I was induced twice and the process was very very long...but I don't have labor to compare it too, it was about 13 hours.

  • Why do they want to induce? I wouldn't do it without a darn good reason.

  • My doc does the same exact thing every time- I go for it. There are risks associated with induction- so you'll want to do your own research, but i have done mine and found that every risk listed was prevented by the hospital (I can enumerate what was done for each risk) My pros are these- you can let people know when baby will arrive- that way the people you want to be there can be there. There is no stressful mad dash to the hospital, you are relaxed, you just go, check in, and a few hours later you have a baby. You know exactly when you need your baby bag ready.

Cons- the induction contractions are harder- if you are against the epidural I would not suggest induction. You will be much more likely to need pain meds if induced (I personally say gimme the epi and induce)

I have been induced just like this twice and plan to do it again in July
No matter what your choice remember the goal- healthybaby comes into the world
