Bleeding Gums?

I brush my 1 year old DD's teeth with a 0-2 year toothbrush. Just like an adult one, but mini. I noticed her gums started to bleed a little last night, and now I'm a bit worried. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

  • I'm a dental hygienist. It's not gingivitis in a 1 year old. She most likely has new teeth that are almost ready to erupt. Don't worry about it - it's normal. The tissue (gums) become thinner as the new teeth begin to break through. Continue brushing her teeth as usual she'll be fine.

  • Sounds like gingavitis (sp?). I would take her to the dentist.
