What is the best thing to get rid of fire ants?

We get them BAD here... is there any preventative maintenance to help keep them away before they get too bad? I put some Sevin down earlier but I don't know how well that will work.

  • baking soda - but if you have a big pile the stuff at wal-mart works good and not expensive. Or you can have fun and put gasoline on mound and burn them

  • I hate fire ants. I live on a giant ant hill in Florida. I try to get my neighbors to treat their lawns at the same time I am doing mine. What usually happens is the mounds will just move to the neighbors yard after your yard has been treated. It takes a team effort to evict them.
