  • I'm a dental hygienist. When teeth erupt they may not always be in alignment but will slowly move into place. The only pre-indication that a child may need orthodontic treatment in the future is if one or both parents needed orthodontics.
Permanent teeth are the indicators of orthodontics needs. They may also erupt out of alignment but it is difficult to diagnose until the child is 8 or 9 years old.
