does WIC give immunizations?

DH has a problem with Medicaid or whatever state ins is, but not a problem with recieving WIC...don't ask, his political views are beyond me. Anyways, our ins recently ran out and my son needs his 9 month checkup soon. Does WIC give immunizations? I'd hate for him to miss his shots, but I don't have $500 to fork out.
Please no discussion about how I'm a bad mom for vaccinatingmy son or getting state handouts. We're down and out and as soon as we can get back on our feet we won't use state funds.

  • Health department does it for free...they dont even ask anything about insurance. I took all my kids there. Some health departements even do well-baby checks. look them up in your phone book & give them a call. you'd be surprised what they offer either free or very low cost. If you need help figuring out who to call you can always ask at WIC & they can direct you to the proper number.

  • Oh, but you can go to the health dept. and get them --- they base cost on your income.

  • also you can get medicaid just for your son. You and DH dont have to be on it, if he would feel better about that.

  • You will never here you are a bad mommy from me for taking care of your child. There has never been a case or a reputable study showing a link between vaccines and autism. As far as I know WIC doesn't do vaccines but they would know who does. Try the county health department also.

  • Not sure about where you are at.. but our WIC department also has a sister department called Healthy Moms, Healthy Kids. They can and will help with the vaccinations.
Also.. (not sure if it's just here.. or everywhere) we have KidFirst insurance. It covers the kids for whatever they need. Ask WIC about it.. they should be able to help you out.
