Pepto Bismol and Breastfeeding?

Can I take Pepto Bismol while I'm breastfeeding?

  • OK. In a nutshell.... L3. Drug whose effect on nursing infants is unknown but bay be of concern. Should not be routinely used due to the association of saliclates in Reye's syndrome in children.
    Pediatric concerns: Risk of Reye's syndrome in neonates, but has not been reported with this product in a breastfed infant.

    My take on this: use if needed, but not excessively. Personally, I can't stand the stuff. What's bothering your stomach, I can help you find something that targets the specific problem. Pepto is like, a blanket cure. It helps many types of stomach problems, it's best to take something specific to your issue.

  • I called a pharmacist about that recently, and he told me that it should be just fine. I'd recommend either calling your doctor or a pharmacist just to be sure.

  • Pepto is not preferred...Immodium AD is a better choice.
