anyone know what i can give/do for a 4 month old that has a cough, besides using a humidifier? i've already bought that and it's not working well. don't really know if there is anything else i can do.

She's not running a fever or anything, it's just a really bad cough.

  • The humidifier is really all you can do at that age.

  • if that is not working she may need a nebulizer machine to give her albuteral or and pulmicort breathing treatments. Does she have a wheeze?

  • Rub them down with vicks vapor and rub their feet with vicks vapor -a large amount- and cover with socks Also you can add the vapors to the humidfer

  • the vapo rub on the feet works WONDERS. but i would try propping her up. unless she is sleeping okay, then just go with the vapo rub. it really does work. but only prop her up if shes not sleeping for you. laying down usually makes coughs worse. but keep a GOOD eye on her. obviously at that age they can still roll and suffocate or w/e. it depends on how she sleeps too. most moms put their babies on their backs now i think? mine has slept on his side his whole life, and never had a problem. when he had a cough laying flat made it worse, if you dont want to prop her up maybe try laying her on her side.

  • If it's a bark like cough she may have croup (sp?).and you should probably get her into the doctors. They put mine on steroids for this.

Other than that, the only other advice I can offer, until you can get her in would be to keep her in a more upright position, to help loosen the mucus.

You can try a little babies vicks on the feet, and putting socks on, but don't use A LOT. A small amount is all that is needed, anything more isn't good for a baby of this age.
