totally gross, embarassing and TMI..

This is totally gross, but i must ask, sorry for those with a weak stomach.

ok, so i just went "number two" and it was really hard to push out, i guess i am constipated and i heard it is quite common, BUT i had to force REALLY hard , so hard i actually peed, and it actually kind of hurt. all that came out were little "balls" and when i wiped there was a bit of blood.
is this normal or should i worry?
I plan on bringing it up to my obstetrician, but i don't see her till April 7th, anyone know of any remedies to help with this in the meantime so it doesnt happen again?

Thanks and again, so sorry.

  • yeah just a spot about the size of maybe a quarter when i wiped.
I'm 6 months pregnant, and when i asked my sister she said it was probably from pushing so hard. and being "impacted"

  • You may have caused a slight tear in your rectum but this is not something to be overlly worried about.

  • You are constipated and you probably have hemorrhoids either internal or external. Eat more fruit and veggies or actually buy a stool softener.

  • I would ask your doctor before taking a stool softener.

  • Ah, gotta love that!
No worries, I have had the same problem, more than once (unfortunately)
It's just hemorrhoids, they are pretty common with pregnancy because lucky for us we tend to get more constipated.

Just make sure next time you take your time. Try going and if you can't, don't push it. Just wait a while, it's uncomfortable but it's better for you to just try again later. Wait until it's not so hard to push. You shouldn't have to strain that much! It's not good for you.

Also, for the hemorrhoids, it's a good idea to check with your own doctor on these but just stop by a pharmacy and pick up some hemorrhoidal wipes and some cream specifically for the problem, it will help! May be a little embarassing but it will help!

  • Yes and as others have said, try eating more fruits! And make sure you drink lots of water and fruit juices. Anything high in fiber will be good. Even try DanActive yogurt.

  • Don't strain when going to the bathroom. You'll be sorry later. Just wait a little while until your body is ready and relax when going to the bathroom. You'll get terrible hemorrhoids and varicose veins if you strain. Eat extra fiber and get plenty of fluids. Oatmeal or bran cereal is good. Dehydration is common in pregnancy and can cause constipation. Drink water several times a day. For immediate relief try drinking a mug of hot water - like tea without the tea bag. This usually stimulates the bowels. Fresh blood is an indication of an abrasion close to the anal opening, such as from hemorrhoids, and isn't usually cause to worry. Don't worry unless stools are black and tarry - that is an indication of "old blood" and internal bleeding.

  • I'm only 4 weeks and I've been experiencing that as well. Lately I've been eating more Corn Flakes, Cheerios, Oatmeal, Salads with Spinach, and fruits. It's good roughage. (lol ) Like the others said the bleeding is from hemorrhoids. Take care!
