  • I have had PCOS for over 7 years. The best way to get rid of it is a low carb lifestlye. You have a harder time getting pregnant because your egg doesnt release out of the cyst and it just attaches to the tube and fills with fluid. I have a cyst on my right ovary a little larger than a golf ball and I have not been on birth control for 25 months and I'm no more pregnant then the man in the moon!! I did conceive my son though after a few months of really trying. I used myfertilityfriend.com and did it so perfect we had a boy. (its harder to conceieve a boy then a girl) Lots of overweight women with PCOS get pregnant. Start a healthy diet, drink lots of water, exercise 30 mins everyday, and take a prenantal vitamin and let things happen. There is also Clomid (sp) but I hear alot of women miscarry with that. Good luck and feel free to ask me any qusetions. Take care, Erica

  • Time to find a new Doctor!!!!! Your doctor should know that with PCOS it is difficult to lose weight. he should be trying to find an underlying cause to your weight. A lot of women with PCOS have insulin resistance and need medication to help with that. Seriously he should be more helpful. If you can, you need to find a reproductive endocrinologist. And one that specializes in PCOS. There is a group on here called TTC With PCOS. look us up!

  • I have pcos and now I am pregnant with my first, completely unplanned! I had surgery to take the cysts off my overies 2years ago and cut sugar, caffeine and a lot of carbs out of my diet and i did take metformin 1,500mg a day for a year but it hurt my stomach so i stopped last year. go see an endocrinologist, they specialize in helping women with pcos, they will help you. I know there is one at mcv at their stony point womens location. I hope this helped.

  • First, its important for all to remember that not all women with PCOS have issues with ovulation, cysts or egg quality and it is not affected by weight. PCOS affects each woman differently.

I think you need to find a new doctor. A doctor that just says your too overweight and sends you on your way is a doctor that is not very educated on PCOS and how it affects womens lives. That said, look for a responsible Reproductive Endocrinologist and get yourself a good PCOS treatment plan. Contact me at pcosinct@yahoo.com for my PCOS Kit (document) that will help guide you on your journey to health.

Treating the PCOS at the core is the best way to help yourself become pregnant - and maybe even on your own. Let me know what area you are in and I can help you find a better doctor.

  • To some of the other ladies who commented:

The sex of a baby is completely determained by the mans sperm - not a woman or how you try to conceive. You have no control over which sex you have unless doctored in a lab.

If metformin is too uncomfortable to take, it sounds like you arent taking it properly - no fault of your own, just your doctor didnt explain the process of met. I also suggest switching to Metformin ER which is a once a day medication - but can be split up over twice a day if necessary. Contact me for a PCOS Kit to know the best way to take metformin at pcosinct@yahoo.com

Exercise should be 5 to 6 times a week at minimum of 20 minutes a day in fat-reduction mode. You can and should suppliment two or three of those days with weightlifting to increase muscle cells and help improve insulin responce.

ALL women with PCOS are Insulin Resistant or you wouldnt be PCOS. Its the basis of PCOS.
