Body not absorbing Fats?

I took my 15 month old to the doctor's b/c he has had loose stools his whole life, well FINALLY they ran tests on him, the doc said he is sending him to a GI doc for further testing b/c he is not absorbing Fat and Carbs. Has anyone else had this problem? Or know what this could mean? I'm so worried!! Thanks so much !!

  • When his body doesnt absorb fats they pass right through, thus the loose stools. The biggest problem with this is going to be that he isn't getting the fat soluble vitamins. They do have fat sol. vit. in water sol. form though which might be an option. There are a lot of things that can cause it, some can be fixed with medication, others cant. The GI doc will be able to explain to you a lot better. Good news is that lots of people live very normal lives with the condition. It does require watching the diet very closely but its manageable. Good luck!
