Why Do I Have To Wear A Pad After Having A C-Section?

When I give birth, I'm going to have a C-Section. Why do I have to wear pads if there is nothing wrong with my vagina?

  • Because you will still be bleeding for a while afterwards. They don't clean out your uterus, you bleed it out like a vaginal birth.

  • It cuts down on the risk of infection vs. a tampon. Better safe than sorry.

  • Because even though they will be removing everything (baby and placenta) there will still be a wound from where the placenta detached from the wall of your uterus, and it will bleed profusely, just like with a vaginal birth. You can not use tampons until your first regular period due to the risk of infection.
