does anyone else's 3 year old eat all day?

she eats god sized meals, and i let her have snacks in between usually, but she seems like shes eating so often. like ever hour or half hour. shes not eating junk , i usually give her carrots or some kind of fruit, granola bars and stuff when shes hungry in between meals, but it seems like it isn't enough and shes hungry an hour later. anyone else go through this? should i try to limit her eating? or is it ok as long as shes eating healthy stuff?

  • Maybe she's not really hungry. Children will eat as much as you give them of any food they like. If you have food always available, she will always want to eat. As long as she is not underweight, I don't think it's healthy to graze all day because it's simply a bad habit for anyone. You could try the "table only" rule that we have at my house. Drinking and eating is done only at the table no other activities while eating (no TV, no books,..etc.). This will encourage her to find other activities aside from eating to keep her occupied. Something to think about.

  • i agree with you. i think part of the reason she eats so often is just because she knows its there . and shes bored, not hungry.

  • If this is something she just started recently, she may be hitting a growth spurt because I know know daughter started around 3 years old, she would have a week or two at a time when she would eat anything and everything she could. She would eat a normal sized meal, then be hungry 30 minutes later, and eat a snack, then like an hour later, hungry again. But I always noticed afterward that she had grown out of her clothes as far as height goes! She still does it about once every 2-3 months where she just can not get enough to eat. And her pediatrician said it is perfectly healthy and often better for both children and adults to "graze" on healthier items through the day rather than have 3 regular meals. As long as she is at a healthy weight that is and is eating only healthy foods.

  • I agree with AprilDJC. My daughter did the exact same thing right before growth spurts. She'd eat and eat for a couple of weeks, then slow down to 3 meals a day, but sleeping more. That's when we knew we'd need to go clothes shopping soon. She's 4 now and it's not as drastic, but she still does this. She's perfectly healthy, tall for her age, but not overweight at all.
