My Shih Tzu snores. I like to hear him snore. He looks so relaxed and peacful. Should I be concern or is it okay he snores?

  • My cats snore too. I asked the vet and he looked at me like I was crazy for asking that question. So, it's okay your dog snores.

  • All of my pets snore, I think its just way cute.
My dog is snoring right now, and I started laughing because he'd snore, then whimper and kick around, then snore again. He must be having some really good dreams.

  • Snoring can be fine (my dog saws logs all night) but if it is real loud or if it is accompanied by apnea (periods of not breathing) it could be bradycephanic syndrome. You should have your vet keep an eye on it. It's common in smushfaced breeds and it has to do with their nostrils and soft palate being shaped differently. It's not a huge deal but it's good to keep informed on it.

  • I have a shi-zu and he snores the vet says its because his snout is squished towards his face mor than other breeds like labs and papillons have longer snouts. All their little nose organs are squished together and they snore or have a nose whistle more often but dont be concerned, pugs, shi-zus, and bull dogs all do it. its normal. I was scared too when I fisrt heard it lol

  • Hi - some dogs do snore... As long as it doesn't seem labored, all should be fine.

If the snoring increases, then we may be talking allergies...

If you need help with feeding or allergy control...stop by all experts and see pet nurse Marie
