Do you add or subtract 1 degree when taking a temp through the armpit?

  • i think you subtract one when under the armpit. and add one when taken from the mouth.

    and probably from the butt.. as is? i'm NOT sure though... time to google.

    subtract 1 under tounge

  • Ear is the most accurate and easy. Rectal is accurate but isn't recommended because of discomfort and potential infections. The doctor does it some times with tiny babies but they sterilize everything or use single use probe covers. Oral is one degree lower than ear or rectal. But unless it is a new born or really young baby you don't have to be that precise.
