Why are we not prepared to do anything?

If North Korea is going to break international law and test a long range missile, why are we not prepared to do anything? IF they are testing it as an intercontinental missile to carry a nuclear warhead that has the potential to reach Hawaii, why are we not doing anything?

"The United States can do nothing to stop North Korea from breaking international law in the next 10 days by firing a missile that is unlikely to be shot down by the U.S. or its allies, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Sunday."

Gates said while he doesn't think North Korea has the capability yet to shoot off a long-range nuclear-tipped missile, "I don't know anyone at a senior level in the American government who does not believe this technology is intended as a mask for the development of an intercontinental ballistic missile."

  • We are america we think we are invincible and really dont believe that anything can happen to us.
As my history teacher my senior year said,"there has never been a country in the history of world that not fallen at some point to someone or something." Did I mention our government doesn't given a crap about the american citizens. After all less of us is more for them.

  • Saddam Hussein was allowed to break international laws for how long with Bill Clinton in office? If Obama gets 8, N.Korea will be allowed to do this for 8 years at least or until another country steps up and takes care of the problem. Obama is not man enough to stand up to opposition. His plan so far when it comes to opposition is to put the Biden's in hiding, avoid the issue by leaving town, or refuse to call on provocative journalists, or avoid taking questions choosing to have him do all the speaking. Obama is the King of Non confrontation because his skills lie in coercing others to join him rather than debate an issue. He cannot and is not qualified to coerce N. Korea or Islamists for that matter. This is one we will lose with Obama.
And you can thank Al Gore for giving those people the information by accident, to be able to produce a weapon that can reach this far.

  • remember, no one thought a disaster like 911 would have happend either...our country needs to really step back and start planning for ourself and clean up instead of worrying about everyone else. take America back/get our military back/close the boarders and clean up. we need to start protecting america because these other countries don't give a shit about us!!!

  • Near as I can tell, based on previous events, it takes a good 10 years of breaking UN resolutions before anyone cares.

  • Why are Clinton and Obama getting all the blame? Seems Mr. Bush had eight years to do something about it too.

Heck, every President since Truman has had a chance to do something.

  • I don't believe 20% of what I read or hear in from a news organization. They only know what they are told and sometimes by people who are charged with dispersing misinformation. N. Korea listens to our news too. Also, we are emperialistic. Its not the US's job to contol every nation on earth. We can tell them they are breaking the law, but its up to them to be a government of honorable people who will follow the law. All we can do is protest.

  • To the lady who says we can do nothing you are dead wrong. The reason we have not been attacked since 9/11 is because we took the fight to the enemy. Fighting is the only thing these people understand. North Korea is a dictatorship. Dictators have to be given ultimatums. You have to threaten your enemies you cannot just talk with them because they don't think like we do. They don't care about their own people just about power and control and they are cowards. I have lived overseas and believe me they are mean and cruel and vengeful. Bush had the right people and knew what to do. Obama knows nothing and thinks we have to be friends with everyone - that is a bunch of bs. The reason we are the super power is because they respect us for standing up to our principles and once we stop doing this we are toast!!!!!!!!!!

  • Secretary Gates is correct. Under the Obama administration we are helpless. Obama will gut the military just like Clinton did. He will set us up for another 9/11.

To the person that complained about Bush not doing something about this.......ummm this is going on right now and Obama is the president. It is his baby. If you will remember NK set aside their nuclear development in exchange for removal from the "axis of evil" list when Bush was President.

Predators can smell weakness from miles away. Guess which country is the "catch of the day?"

  • Because our government is too busy passing out money like it's Christmas to care about national security.

As for the person who says not to blame Obama for his lack of response, the missile is on the launch pad now. Not december of last year. He can't claim inheritance on everything.
