  • If your MIL loses the weight, it IS possible that she will lose the diabetes. Type 2 is caused by overweight. I know many Type 2s and all of them are seriously overweight. i am type1. If losing weight would cause the diabetes to be cured, i would do all I could to lose the weight. Your MIL must be quite heavy for them to be considering the lap-band surgery. If she gets the band that can be removed after the weight is gone, it might be the best thing for her. That should be her first step to recovery. Please be supoportive and encourage her. If she loses all the weight and the diabetes goes away, there's a possibility that her entire life will improve and she'll be around for many more years than she would have been otherwise. Her complications are caused by uncontrolled diabetes. So if the diabetes goes, the complications will have a much better chance of being treated and cured, too!
