  • I know that Florida requires child abuse registry and FBI reports and that the homestudy must be within the year.
I can tell you that the parents can terminate their rights at 24 hour for a vaginal delivery and 48 hours for a c-section (if they are off medicines). Our daughter's birthmother terminated her rights before leaving the hospital. The her attorney, our attorney, and a court reporter did the termination. A nurse had to give "testimony" about her medications.
We became the guardians at this point. The father's rights were terminated a couple of days later. A final termination of parental rights was held at 30 days- if the birthparents wanted to dispute the termination of rights-they had to do it at this hearing.
We had 2 post-placement visits- one before 60 days in the home and one before the final adoption hearing.
We did the final adoption hearing by phone. It was held about 90 days after her birth.

  • You should expect the relationship with your friend to become strained, if not completely erradicated.
