Speeding up labor...

My doctor plans on inducing me next week if everything looks ok when I see him on Friday. I have been having contractions for 2 wks or more. They have become stronger over the wknd. I haven't lost my plug nor has my water broke. My family keeps telling me not to vacuum because this will speed my labor up.. Is this true? They also don't want me to sweep and mop my house because that too will speed up labor? Is this just an old wives tale or is there some truth to it..

  • Lot's of walking and sex may help.

  • Why don't they want you to speed up labor? It's a safer alternative to an induction.. but then again, if you are above 39 weeks.. it may not be a good idea.

Cleaning may help with labor, if your body is ready, just like walking could. Nothing, not even a medical induction, will work if your body/baby is not ready.

  • I would rather go into labor on my own than be induced...

  • Eat lots of pineapple, drink red raspberry tea, walk a LOT! Cumin tea is also good, and yes, sex. Going into labor on your own is better than getting induced, so start vacuuming.

  • You have a choice, your doctor can not induce you against your will! If you would *rather* go into labor on your own, then do so. Your doctor has no say in the matter!

Sex and Walking can help, if your body is ready.
