potty training advice

so i knew that chi's are hard to potty train but this is ridiculous. any advice on what i can try. i had crate that my mil gave away and she replaced it with a bigger one which isn't working cause she still pees and poos in it. i have even tried tying her leash to us to keep an eye on her. that isn't working either. i can't afford another crate, right now. if she is not trained soon i will have to rehome her.

  • Maybe you could block off part of the crate so she has room but not room to poop.

During housebreaking, whenever the puppy is inside the home but cannot be watched, he is placed in the crate. This might be while you are cooking, reading to the children, or even away from the home. The last thing you do before you put the puppy in the crate is take him outside to his favorite spot. The first thing you do when you take the animal out of the crate is another trip outside. No food or water goes in the crate, just a blanket and maybe a chew toy to occupy his time. Overnight is definitely crate time. As your faith in the puppy grows, leave him out for longer and longer periods of time.

Make sure you buy the right size cage. You want one that has the floor space that provides just enough for the puppy to lie down.
choose a model that comes with or has a divider.

  • So your making her go out side to potty every hour or two??Do you feed her in her crate??Most dogs will not pee or poo were they eat.

  • yes i put food in there and that is what i heard but she still does it. it's not that big of crate either it's the second smaller crate size up from a small one. i let her out to play for a half or hour and then put her back in. she screams the whole time like she is being attacked. i just ignore it. if i'm not around though the boys will let her out cause of her screaming. do i just keep trying. i just don't see how it will work if she just pees and poos in it. i guess she is just a lost cause.
